Why is IBZ e.V. involved in Ecuador?
In the province of Cañar, emigration has shaped local social and economic dynamics. Many families rely on remittances, and rural women often face barriers to earning their own income, accessing technical training, and entering wider markets.
The project “Women Walking Together” was created in response to these realities, aiming to create productive opportunities, economic autonomy, and environmental sustainability through cooperation between the diaspora organisation IBZ e.V., the partner organisation FCTE, and local communities.
What is planned?
Comprehensive training and capacity-building for two local women’s associations aiming to strengthen artisanal and agricultural production, innovation, digitalisation, and environmental sustainability. These are: AGRO CUY Jerusalén Association (Biblián Canton) – women farmers and Unión Cañari Cooperative (Azogues Canton) – women weavers and toquilla straw artisans.
Development of marketing and sales processes through digitalisation and improved communication and promotional materials.
Creation of two marketplaces to enhance sales and promote women’s economic independence.
Introduction of new technology, machinery, infrastructure upgrades, and improved raw materials to strengthen production and competitiveness.
