I do not have experience in farming, and I am not a scientist. My skill is connecting farmers' problems – like poor soil, lower crop yields, and stricter production requirements – with the latest research and viable solutions from scientists.

While working in Viet Nam’s food industry, Huong realized that the logic of “consume, discard the excess, and not care where it goes” makes both the planet and its inhabitants sick. One of her uncles was diagnosed with cancer, likely due to years of chemical pesticide application. These insights prompted her to delve deeper into the agricultural sector. She found that farmers struggling with salinized soils, decreasing yields, and shrinking incomes, while livestock farmers were overwhelmed with mountains of manure.

Upon closer examination of the latest agricultural research, she realized that manure could be refined and reintroduced into the circular economy as a biological fertilizer. This fertilizer helps heal damaged soil and accelerates plant growth. Treated manure, along with field biomass, is supplemented with specific microorganisms during the composting and processing stages. This process helps decompose organic matter and harmful pathogens while retaining ammonia, carbon, and other essential nutrients. The result is an organic microbial fertilizer rich in macro and micronutrients, meeting a significant demand in Viet Nam.

Through her business Agrivari, Huong is bringing all her findings into an innovative circular business model. Since waste growth and soil degradation are global problems, Agrivari is based in Viet Nam but operates globally. Her company collaborates with scientists from all over Europe and conducts pilot projects in different parts of the world. In Viet Nam, Agrivari has partnered with leading farming businesses that are currently testing the company’s biological fertilizer and delivering waste-raw materials for its production.

With the introduction of the latest laws on fertilizer use, waste disposal, greenhouse gas emissions and aquatic system pollution, our patented method is indispensable for a more sustainable agriculture. The Green Revolution once heavily boosted the use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides. Agrivari is doing the opposite: we are boosting an organic agricultural revolution in Viet Nam and beyond.
