CO-HATY is a humanitarian charity organisation that was founded during the war in Ukraine by female architects and urbanists in western Ukraine. It renovates empty houses in Ukraine according to the principles of the circular economy (recycling) in order to provide safe and affordable accommodation for people displaced by war in the country. The organisation has developed from a war-related ad hoc initiative into a permanent organisation and is currently in a critical growth phase. The diaspora organisation FutureLink supports CO-HATY to grow sustainably.

Due to the war initiated by Russia against Ukraine, millions of Ukrainians have been displaced. By renovating vacant buildings according to the principles of the circular economy, sustainable and affordable social housing is created for internally displaced persons. The successful business model, which is currently being implemented at six locations, can be used in many places in Ukraine.

  • Development of strategic documents and internal policies and procedures in line with the requirements of major international programmes and donor organisations
  • Development and implementation of a tailor-made capacity building programme for the organisation, including through workshops and individual counselling
  • Knowledge exchange on social housing practices in Ukraine and Germany for more than 100 social housing stakeholders in Ukraine (study tour in Ukraine, conference, webinars with field reports)
