The 2nd Diaspora Summit in Berlin

In 2024, we supported the second edition of the "Diaspora Summit". This edition took place in Berlin and brought together diaspora organisations and state institutions.

The Diaspora Summit was held in three stages: first at the offices of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), then at the German Bundestag and finally at the Berlin Global Village. Speaking at the summit, Elke Löbel, BMZ Head of Sub-Division for Displacement, Migration, Crisis Prevention & Management, highlighted the essential role of the diaspora in development cooperation and stressed the importance of direct dialogue with diaspora communities.

A key outcome of the summit was the creation of a position paper which was handed over to Development Minister Svenja Schulze. The Diaspora Summit is organised by a group of diaspora organisations in Germany with the aim to strengthen networking among diaspora members engaged in development policy.
