Why is TU eMpower Africa e.V. involved in Ghana?
The consequences of climate change are already clearly noticeable in northern Ghana. Water scarcity, food insecurity, poverty and hunger characterise the reality of many people who are heavily dependent on agriculture. The project endeavours to mitigate the consequences of climate change and increase agricultural production. By establishing a women-led cooperative, the project also promotes gender equality. Women can thus take on leadership roles, gain access to resources (financial means, mutual support) and benefit directly from their economic activities, which increases their financial independence and stability. This helps to break down existing barriers that hinder their economic and social participation. It also strengthens their position in society and increases their visibility.
What is planned?
- Financing and installation of modern ‘energy-water-food systems’
- Training farmers in the use of the new systems and in agricultural best practices
- Teaching entrepreneurial skills
- Foundation of a women's cooperative
