During his 3-week diaspora-expert assignment, Gaurav Tiwari supported the municipality of Waling, nestled in the heart of Nepal, in empowering women and young girls to strengthen their digital, cybersecurity, and financial literacy skills.

The initiative aimed to help participants not only learn essential digital competencies and online safety practices but also gain the necessary confidence and independence to navigate an increasingly digital world. Within the scope of this assignment, Gaurav conducted a baseline assessment to understand participants’ existing knowledge and needs for further capacity-building.  He integrated conceptual learning tools, such as targeted training modules, with hands-on opportunities through workshops on computer use and internet navigation. His expertise was also leveraged to enhance participants’ financial literacy through sessions on budgeting, saving, and the management of digital finances.

To sustain this engagement and learning process, Gaurav established mentorship and peer-learning groups, and brought together the wider community including families, educators, and community leaders to promote women’s digital inclusion.

This initiative lays the groundwork for sustainable community empowerment, creating a pathway for women and young girls to actively participate in Waling’s digital and financial landscape.

Sharing practical digital, AI, and financial skills with Nepal’s youth, especially young women, felt like a powerful way to give back and inspire the next generation.
