Diaspora Investor Training
Are you part of the diaspora living in Germany? You want to invest in small and medium enterprises in your country of origins but need guidance? Together with other investors, you will explore the Angel Investing landscape and will take part in SME Matchmaking events.
GIZ’s Programme ‘Shaping development-oriented migration’ (MEG) is launching a Diaspora Investor Training to help diaspora members become active and informed angel investors.
Bridging the financing gap through diaspora capital
Access to early-stage growth capital remains one of the most persistent challenges for SMEs in emerging markets. Entrepreneurs often rely on self-financing due to high interest rates, short maturities, and strict collateral requirements from formal financial institutions.
At the same time, millions of people with a history of migration in Germany retain strong economic and personal ties to their countries of origin. Their capital has historically flowed into remittances and low-liquidity assets like real estate leaving a gap in structured capital for local high-growth enterprises. They often lack structured investment knowledge, understanding for legal frameworks in different countries, and risk-mitigating channels to participate in financing SME’s.
The six-weeks intensive programme taking place between November and December 2026 will strengthen the capacity of selected diaspora members in Germany to assess SME investment opportunities and make more informed investment decisions. The programme will seek to facilitate connections between participants and SMEs after the training.
How can you apply?
Places are limited and will be awarded based on motivation to become an active angel investor after completion.
