Are you originally from Ukraine and would like to contribute to the reconstruction of the country with your technical expertise? The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH offers you the opportunity to do so. As a highly qualified “Returning Expert”, GIZ supports you to work with a local employer and help rebuild your country of origin. This includes counselling on finding a job and support for your voluntary return as well as a subsidy on your local salary.
This opportunity is offered by the Expert Fund Migration & Diaspora (FMD). FMD is commisioned by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and is implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH.
The Offer
- Placement in vacant positions in Ukraine with a focus on the reconstruction of the country.
- Support in re-entering the local job market.
- Allowances to supplement your local salary for a period of one year.
- Possibility of a travel allowance.
- Networking events and knowledge exchange trainings.
Your Profile
- You are based in Germany and would like to return to Ukraine for an extended period to contribute to the reconstruction of the country.
- You have obtained one of the following three qualifications within the last five years:
- a) A university degree or doctorate from a German higher education institution, with at least 12 months in Germany.
- b) A formally recognised training and further education recognised in Germany (at least 12 months).
- c) At least one year of qualified professional experience in Germany.
- Furthermore, you must meet one of the following requirements:
- a) You plan to return to Ukraine within the next few months and start a local employment relationship by 1st March 2026 at the latest.
- b) You returned to Ukraine no more than 12 months ago and are currently looking for work,
- c) You returned to Ukraine no more than 12 months ago and have been working for a Ukrainian employer for less than one year.
Who are “Returning Experts for Ukraine´s Recovery”?
Returning Experts (RE) are highly skilled individuals who have gained their expertise in Germany and wish to leverage their skills in local institutions by returning to their country of origin for an extended period.
Many people with a migration history study, live and work in Germany and continue to feel a close connection to their countries of origin. Some of them would like to return at some point – also to make a difference locally. This holds great potential for sustainable development. Through their commitment to their countries of origin, Returning Experts bring valuable expertise, knowledge, and experience to their local employers, driving innovation and offering new perspectives. In Ukraine, this expertise can significantly aid the country's reconstruction efforts.
