- Professional Background:
Medical Research Scientist, Immunologist, Biomedicine & Biotechnology at the Charité Medical University in Germany

I am originally from Ethiopia, but I now live in Berlin. I came to Germany on a university scholarship. After completing my PhD, I began working as a medical research scientist in Germany. My work focuses on topics such as immunology, experimental medicine, autoimmune diagnosis, infection medicine, one health, zoonosis, and advisory for biomedical companies. I also work as a guest lecturer at various Ethiopian universities. I have co-founded two diaspora organisations in Germany, where I serve as general secretary and vice-president.
My main mission and vision for Ethiopia and Africa are to transfer knowledge, particularly in science and technology, in order to combat diseases, pandemics, poverty, and climate change, and to improve mother-child healthcare. I aim to support new generations of visionary and innovative young Ethiopian and African scientists. This is also a key focus for my role on the Diaspora Advisory Board of the MEG.
I have extensive experience in knowledge transfer and networking as a diaspora actor in both Ethiopia and Germany, particularly in the medical sector, research and education. I am also familiar with how governmental institutions in both countries operate. From my experience, I believe that German development policy could be more effective if it considered more local context information. I aim to share my knowledge of both countries to achieve mutual benefits for Germany and Ethiopia.
My superpower is hard work with a clear vision and mission. I am dedicated to innovative biomedical research, education, health, justice, peace, sustainable food production, and protection against diseases, poverty, and climate change.
I am an ambassador of Brain City Berlin and the University of Gonder. I am a technical advisory board of TOG (Veterinarians without Borders) in Germany and a member of the Technical Committee for Ruminants of the German Veterinary Chamber (BTK). I founded the Kess Waka Meskelo International Medical Center in Tedda-Gonder, Ethiopia. I am a guest lecturer in different Ethiopian Universities and candidate for an adjunct Professor in the University of Gonder. Additionally, I am a member of the Global Health Hub, the WHO Hub and a One Health platform in Germany. I am also a scientific board member of the Network of Ethiopian Scholars.
I am a member of different national and international academic societies like the German Society of Immunology, the German Society for Tropical Medicine, Travel Medicine and Global Health (DTG) and the Ethiopian Science Academy.
