Community Support Group (CSG) Nepal, Pokhara

3 weeks

In Pokhara, many people affected by substance use or at risk of HIV struggle to access support. Stigma and misinformation often lead to silence, delaying help until problems escalate. The Community Support Group Nepal works to close these gaps by offering counselling, outreach and rehabilitation services. For three weeks, Manisha Pariyar joined their team to strengthen these efforts.
Manisha returned to her country of origin to apply her experience in counselling and health education. She led sessions where participants could learn about HIV prevention and substance-use risks in an open and supportive environment. Rather than relying on formal lectures, she encouraged guided discussions and peer learning, helping participants understand triggers, harm-reduction strategies and the importance of mental wellbeing.
I wanted to use my skills to give back to society and contribute to a cause that truly matters.
Manisha's work also reached families and caregivers, who often face uncertainty and fear. By offering practical guidance on recognising early warning signs and supporting loved ones, she helped reduce stigma and made it easier for people to seek help. Over the course of her assignment, Manisha strengthened local knowledge, encouraged safer health behaviours and supported a more inclusive approach to community health.
Being part of the MEG programme gave me an opportunity to make a real difference in people’s lives. Through my mission […] I was able to raise awareness, share knowledge, and help reduce stigma in the community.
