Online Side Event at the International Migration Review Forum (IMRF 2026)

Diaspora communities are increasingly recognised not only as sources of remittances but as key development partners. They contribute significantly through investment, knowledge transfer, innovation, entrepreneurship, and transnational networks.

To explore this immense potential, the Diaspora Affairs Office of the President of Ghana, together with IOM Ghana, GIZ, IOM Nepal, and the National Diaspora Agency of Albania, invites you to an exclusive online exchange.

Under the theme ‘Leveraging Diaspora Contributions for Sustainable Development’, this event explores how governments and diaspora communities can work together to strengthen development outcomes in line with GCM Objectives 19 and 23.

Building on the experiences of Ghana, Nepal, and Albania, this event highlights diverse national approaches, policy frameworks, and institutional mechanisms for effective diaspora engagement.

The event brings together governments, diaspora representatives, and development partners in an interactive virtual format, ensuring that diaspora voices are placed at the center of the discussion.

  • Host: Diaspora Affairs Office of the President (Ghana) / Ministry of Foreign Affairs

  • Co-host: IOM Ghana Organisers: GIZ & IOM Ghana

  • Co-organisers: IOM Nepal, National Diaspora Agency Albania (AKD), and the Diaspora Advisory Board (DAB)

This event aims to contribute to a more practical understanding of how diaspora engagement can move from policy to impact and support sustainable development outcomes globally.
