  • RemTech Demo Day: Rebooting Remittances

A pilot accelerator programme will support twelve international remittances technology startups whose solutions are based in one of the more than 20 partner countries of the Prorgamme Migration & Diaspora. This underlines international commitments to lower costs and improve the development-oriented use of remittances. (UN Sustainable Development Goals) and GCM (Global Compact on Migration). This project is supported by the GIZ on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, and will be implemented by Frankfurt-based innovation platform TechQuartier.

Remittances are a lifeline to workers’ families back in their countries of origin, providing necessities such as food, medical care and education. Yet transfer fees are high, diverting much needed funds. Additionally, there are opportunities to leverage remittances to support long-term development and financial inclusion via investments, savings and entrepreneurship. This is where RemTech and FinTech innovators have a crucial role to play.

The pilot accelerator programme will be hosted virtually in Frankfurt, Germany from September 27 – October 1, 2021. The week of workshops, coaching and “business speed dating” will culminate in a live-streamed, public Demo Day on October 1.
